If you eat nothing but a plant-based diet, you will be far healthier than if you were to introduce any amount of meat into your diet. All the information out there about people having nutritional deficiencies on a vegetarian diet is misguided and flat-out wrong. Unless, of course, for people are living on what I call a "junk food vegetarian diet," which is soda, chips and vegetarian processed food. Of course that diet causes nutritional deficiencies. But not a health-minded vegetarian diet. Even vitamin B12 is simple to get in sufficient quantities if you put your mind to it. |

The Atkins diet is under fire these days, with some people claiming their ridiculous consumption of high fat foods was "recommended" by the Atkins diet and that, therefore, their cardiovascular disease is the fault of Atkins Nutritionals. The diet also seems to be falling from favor, as many people have already tried the diet and learned that it requires far more disciplined than first imagined.
Critics claim the Atkins diet damages the kidneys, causes high cholesterol, and promotes cardiovascular disease. |

Sadly, many consumers won't pay any attention to a diet guide that doesn't promise miraculous, overnight results, so strong claims appear to be necessary for nearly all diet books these days (even the good ones!). Nobody wants to hear the truth about weight loss: Lose a few ounces of body fat each day as long as you exercise, limit your calories and don't overeat!
Overall, I think the Fruit Flush diet is an excellent guide for helping anyone cleanse their body (liver, intestines, kidneys and more) with great-tasting medicine from nature. |
| It's also a diet rich in raw foods, and nutritional research over the last few years increasingly tells us that raw foods contain powerful medicinal compounds that have wide-ranging healing effects on the body. Added to this is the fact that most consumers simply don't eat sufficient quantities of fresh produce in their diets, so experiencing a fruit flush diet for a few days is an excellent way to boost your fruit intake and help nourish your body using nature's best options.
In fact, some people eat only fruit. |

Proponents of one diet or the other debate over the merits of their particular dieting strategy, but neither seem to recognize that the entire "low-carb versus low-fat diet" argument only serves as a distraction from the real solution to weight loss: shifting to a unprocessed, non-manufactured foods.
The real test about weight loss should compare diets consisting of processed foods versus unprocessed foods. What is a processed food? It's a food that is manufactured and typically sold in pretty packaging at a very high markup price over the cost of its basic ingredients. |

They're known as fruitarians (click here for the Wikipedia entry) and while every fruitarian follows a slightly different diet pattern (some eat nuts and seeds, too), they all based their diets on fruit. And the fruitarians I've known look and feel fantastic!
My only skepticism about the book is its claim that you can, "Lose up to 9 pounds in 3 days!" This is only possible if you have 9 pounds of fecal matter stuck in your digestive tract that are flushed out by the fruit. |

Critics claim the Atkins diet damages the kidneys, causes high cholesterol, and promotes cardiovascular disease. This may be true in the way that most Americans approach the Atkins diet: they consume vast quantities of bacon and other animal products, which are typically loaded with saturated fats and cancer-causing food additives such as sodium nitrite. |

Final note: Do yourself a favor and flush with certified organic fruit. I know it's more expensive than conventional fruit, but if you're trying to get the chemicals OUT of your body during the flush, it makes no sense to put more chemicals IN your body by eating pesticides. Flush with certified organic fruits only! |

When you eliminate these from your diet and shift to a 100% healthful diet made of whole grains, massive quantities of leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, soy products, supergreens, lots of sprouts, raw nuts and seeds, healthy oils and other similar healthful ingredients, your body odor will all but disappear in a matter of weeks.
That's because a plant-based diet is an internal deodorizer. It's true: the chlorophyll and other phytonutrients will cleanse you from the inside out. Some of the best foods for that include parsley, cilantro, celery and all mint species. |

When you started the Teardown phase of diet Evolution, your main purpose was to shut down the "Store Fat for Winter" genetic program by metaphorically removing the "old paint." As you shed old cells, you lay the groundwork for rebuilding your body with modern materials in the form of new cells. But don't be deceived. The "Store Fat" program is always loaded into your genetic computer. That's why you will avoid all "beige" and "white" foods and consume "brown" food in extreme moderation, if at all, in Phase 1. Otherwise, you'll reboot the program and start regaining weight. |
| Limit our activity, feed us a diet based largely on grain products, and we fatten up. Once again, your genes are just responding to the information you're giving them.
Back to lettuce. In contrast, the average apple contains 100 calories, much of it in the form of fructose. You would have to consume three bags of romaine to get the same number of calories as in an apple. Your genes always direct you to foods that supply the most calories for the least energy expenditure. |
| Clearly, I cannot list every food you may come across that has no place in your diet, so, when in doubt, leave it out.
It's important to understand that the foods you must avoid completely have nothing to do with whether they're "good" or "bad" for you; at this point, I don't care. My new patients love to tell me how they eat only organic and/or whole-grain bread, bagels, and pasta, so how could their blood pressure be elevated and their cholesterol be so high? |
| After studying the effects of a number of foods on my patient volunteers and myself, I believe that the main ingredient missing from our more recent ancestors' diet was green leaves.
Oh no, not rabbit food! Before you throw up your hands and slam the book shut, let me remind you that we share 98 to 99 percent of our genes with gorillas and chimps. A 400-pound male silverback gorilla consumes 16 pounds of leaves a day, but only 3 percent of his body composition is fat. He is pure muscle mass, all generated from protein in leaves. |
| Fran's cancer indicators had been rising, but when I saw her six months after starting diet Evolution, her counts were the lowest they had been in years. So am I also saying that all that sugar was feeding her cancer? It sure looks that way. sugar rises quickly, what does your body assume has happened? Right: You've just found the ultimate fruit tree; winter is coming; time to store fat. Next time you take a trip to the zoo, look in the cages. See a juicer? How about a blender for smoothies? Most animals eat whole fruit, but no juice. |

That's something that's taking up space in your stomach and adding empty calories to your diet. But when you're a holistic nutritionist like I am, and you follow a healthy diet, you learn to keep your mouth shut around other people... at least in person. Because most people don't really want to hear any comments whatsoever about foods and nutrition, especially if those comments are directed at the foods they happen to be consuming at the moment.
But every once in a while, someone will volunteer a question while they're chewing on a bacon cheeseburger. |

Overall, I think the Fruit Flush diet is an excellent guide for helping anyone cleanse their body (liver, intestines, kidneys and more) with great-tasting medicine from nature. We would all do well to follow a fruit-based cleanse from time to time, and Jay Robb's book shows us an easy way to make it happen. It's yet another notable contribution from a real pioneer in the nutrition industry, and someone I greatly trust and respect. |

Of course that diet causes nutritional deficiencies. But not a health-minded vegetarian diet. Even vitamin B12 is simple to get in sufficient quantities if you put your mind to it.
As a society, we can exist quite comfortably on a plant-based diet. We can get everything we need in terms of nutrition -- including essential oils, vitamins, minerals and the like -- on a plant-based diet. We do not need meat to survive as a civilization. In fact, I believe that the mass consumption of meat devolves our society, because it makes us more angry and aggressive. |

Hundreds of cancer researchers took part in a five-year project spanning more than 7,000 clinical studies and designed to document the links between diet and cancer. Their conclusion, published in the World Cancer Research Fund's report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective (2007), has rocked the health world with a declaration that all people should immediately stop buying and eating processed meat products and that all processed meat should be avoided for life! |

Tell yourself that, just for the heck of it, you're going to try an all-natural diet for just 24 hours. For one full day, you'll eat nothing but organic, healthy, unprocessed foods. There's no fear in that, because you can promise yourself that the very next day, you can enjoy all the garbage foods you normally eat. What's to fear? Nothing. It's just a simple one-day experiment. Easy.
And what happens is that when people try an all-natural diet for 24 hours, they start to feel really good. |

Just as you will customize your FlexPlan options in your SuperFoodsRx diet, you need to customize your stress-management practices to fit your lifestyle. Meditation and journaling and other activities can be great solutions for some individuals but not the right fit for others. Choose a method or two that suits you and practice it regularly to help reduce chronic stress. You'll find that these techniques will ultimately reduce your body's physiological response to stress and will also become pleasurable interludes in your daily routine. |
| Blueberries, broccoli, spinach, and tomatoes and all their sidekicks are critical players in the SuperFoodsRx diet because they all contain an impressive array of SuperNutrients that fight disease and prolong health. Indeed, blueberries pack an incredible amount of disease-fighting antioxidants into their little globes. And broccoli is generally recognized as a significant first line of defense against cancer. |
| An effective three-prong approach to managing stress and keeping Cortisol levels in check include: first, following the SuperFoodsRx diet, which is rich in foods that will reduce the effects of inflammation and internal stress on the body; second, getting regular adequate exercise, which will help dissipate unfavorable chemical responses created by stress while simultaneously releasing favorable "feel good" chemicals; and third, incorporating some specific stress-reduction techniques and practices into your daily life. |

Most of the diet gurus who talk about "healthy" pasta, whole-grain breads, and rice conveniently ignore the fact that the populations that consume them without apparent ill effects regularly expend large amounts of energy. If you're working in a rice paddy fourteen hours a day, rice is a superb food source, but not if you're sitting in an office ten hours a day. lust as important, most cultures that use white and beige foods as an energy source have developed ways of dealing with their glycemic impact. |

The key to staying healthy and trim for a lifetime, he explains, is allowing your body to detoxify by eating a well-balanced diet while performing periodic flushes with fresh, raw fruit.
Fruit is the key ingredient used in The Fruit Flush 3-Day Detox. Cleansing with fruit is a process high in fiber, water content, plant-based medicines and natural, slow-releasing sugars. The nutrients in fruit can help dissolve toxins and give the body energy. They also help detox the liver from the usual poisoning of dairy products, red meat and chemical food additives found in everyday American foods. |

What's Wrong with a Nonfat diet? Not Enough Fat! Remember when nonfat was all the rage? People avoided fat like the plague. We now know this is counterproductive in terms of both nutrition and weight loss. We need fats—the healthy kind. They play a crucial role in transporting nutrients through every one of our cells as well as keeping our blood vessels in good shape and a host of other important functions. Every cell wall is made up of fat so healthy fat equals a healthy cell wall. |

So, one soft drink a day is less healthy than no soft drinks a day. One soft drink a day makes a difference; it makes you less healthy. In fact, it causes a lot of problems for your pancreas and blood sugar. A soft drink a day promotes diabetes and obesity. |
